"For Ruskin, Turner was quite simply the only man who has ever given an entire transcript of the whole system of nature, and … the only perfect landscape painter whom the world has ever seen". Hmmm not quite! I think Turner was quite right to be wary of Ruskin's adoration.
I saw an exhibition of Turner's years ago but they were truly amazing paintings. Ruskin didn't like or dislike in small measures and I still not quite sure of his influence on Rossetti and Burne-Jones.
