the one on the left is dated to 1876 (10 x 7") and is for the painting "The Rock of Doom"
the figure on the right was in blue and purple chalk over pencil, and was a study for "The Rock of Doom" (10.5 x 6"). It was owned originally by his daughter Margaret.
