This is my favourite painting by Dante, though from admiring it, and hearing the inspirations and how it is perceved, It didn't represent for me anything sensual, or of that nature. So that was a total eye opener for me. I was fortunate to see the painting some years ago, infact it was a delightful surprise as I didn't know the gallery had it. It truly made my day. Did you see the recent TV Series on the PRB?
I would love to see this in real life, one of my favourites too - though I've only recently began to appreciate Rossetti as I don't like his personality at all. I watched a bit of the tv series but started shouting at it, so gave up. Not good for my blood pressure watching such fantasy!
I hope you get to see it, It was good few years ago when I saw it - I think it was The National Portait Gallery. Ha, I don't blame you, My Mam asked if I knew of Fred and It left me thinking am I going nuts never to have heard of him! Thank you BBC for that... not,:P. I did watch it to the end, but it was farcical, and I didn't like how it portrayed that they finished painting in the matter of hours. To be honest the best episode was probaly the last. Have you been to any PRB exhibitions?
When I was younger I went to the Manchester, London and Bristol galleries to see all I could. But I can't drive far now and miss seeing them live. One of the reasons for this blog really - to remind me and to let me find paintings I've never seen. Would love to get to the Delaware Collection.
