What a lovely painting, and so different from Waterhouse' better known subjects (she's not in Grecian dress, for one thing). I love the red detail at the waist--but I can't tell what it is, even when I look at the larger version of the painting. Do you have any idea? Is it a flower? It definitely makes the picture "pop". Thank you for sharing this!

Thanks Margaret. I've featured it before but I recently found the auction price. She has such a lovely face. I alwats assumed it was a rose, a common dress ornament of the time.
