John Dearle - Portiere tapestry

Dearle was a protege of Morris who took over the running of the company after Morris' death. As a tapestry ot cost about £100 - a considerable sum - but was very popular with those who could afford it. For those who couldn't, the Morris chintzes filled the gap.
