I never knew whether Mary Emma Jones was pleased with her long relationship with Sandys. He might well have loved her for the rest of his life but the poor lady was ALWAYS pregnant. Sandys Love's Shadow was, at best, ambivalent. There were other versions of Love's Shadow, but the others were frailer in clothes, hair and colours.
