Simeon Solomon - A Prelude by Bach

Exhibited at the Dudley Gallery in 1896 when the artist was 28. It was exhibited at the RA in 1906 (a year after his death).

I thought I knew all of Simeon's paintings! Clearly not. This painting is richer than his normal dreamy stuff and more "commercial", I would have thought. And yet he died so young, just when his career should have been taking off :(

Thanks, I didn't know it either until I saw it in an auction catalogue (Christie's). Hope you don't mind but I have linked to your post for tonight as it was so well done. Their is something really interesting about that family.
