Arthur Hughes - L'enfant Perdu


1866-7
Experimenting with the effects of lantern light, it was well received. The Mother, Father (and dog) have been searching for their child in the wild woods. There is also a slightly different smaller version painted by Hughes called The Lost Child (the English title of this piece) which is confusingly sold under the same name.

I so love the lighting in this painting. i see what you mean about the pre-raphelite series on tv, i was so disappointed!
