A wife in a loveless marriage has just collapsed following the evocation of memories brought about by reading a favorite book from her school days. A version of this watercolor illustrated the 1860 poem 'The Wife' by 'A'. It appeared in 'Once a Week' an English weekly illustrated literary magazine.
