Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal - Clerk Saunders
Price Realized
£7,250
inscribed 'By Lizzie R/Clerk Saunders' by William Michael Rossetti (on the reverse of the backing sheet)
pencil, on paper, with partial watermark, unframed
3½ x 5½ in. (8.9 x 14 cm.)
The present drawing illustrates the same subject as lot 20, and is again related to the finished watercolour of 1857 in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Another version of the drawing, apparently known only from one of the glass negatives of the artist's work in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, is illustrated in the catalogue of the Siddal Exhibition held at Sheffield in 1991, p. 65.
I love this!
ReplyDeleteAs you would know she had a real talent - influenced by Rossetti of course - but if she had lived would have become a really powerful painter.
