Dante Gabriel Rossetti - Portrait of Fanny Cornforth (c.1860)

  1. Such a dark and lovely portrait of Fanny, totally unlike pictures like The Blue Bower or Fair Rosamund. Doesn't feel posed at all, just painted one evening by firelight. Very romantic...

  2. I always think Rossetti had very mixed feelimns about poor Fanny. He needed her but Jane was still the centre of attention.
