George Frederic Watts - A spaniel with a rat
oil on canvas
48 x 61cm (18 7/8 x 24in).
Sold for £6,600 inclusive of Buyer's Premium
The following lot by George Frederic Watts came to the present owner by direct descent from Lilian Mackintosh, the artist's ward and adopted daughter. Ronald Chapman, son of Lilian, grew up in Limnerslease, the artist's former home, near to which George and Mary Watts chose to build the Watts Gallery. On his death, Ronald bequeathed the picture to his son Michael Chapman who now offers them for sale.
We are grateful to the Watts Gallery for confirming the authenticity of these lots from photographs
