This painting always makes me sad, as the child died. :(Great version of it though!
I've never read that the child died before, its not mentioned in anything I have. I always took it as a rather joyous event to do with new life.
This painting is actually a depiction of a prostitute who is forcing responsibility on the father of her bastard child--hence the name "Take Your Son, Sir."
